This weekend, I got older. We won’t dwell on what age or how old, but let’s just call it a birthday weekend. My husband gave me the best present ever – an overnight with just a few close friends from college – while he took both kids camping none the less! He’s a keeper. He’ll never be able to top it, but he’s a keeper. 🙂 I decided to do a little staycation travel exploration to try and help others as they plan girls weekends or getaways in the Southern California area.
The site for the fun was the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa, right across from Fashion Island in Newport Beach. The hotel is in a great spot because of the easy walking distance to the mall, which includes tons of dining and shopping. The Resort Fee also includes full access to the Pure Blu Spa, a trolley to Corona del Mar beach, and 2 hour bicycle rental. The hotel is great for a girls getaway or couples retreat, but does also have a nice pool, game area, and a seasonal splash pad for kids, making it fun for families as well. The facility and grounds are quite large, as it also hosts a conference center and is the spot for many weddings, banquets and other events. Our standard doubles room didn’t have a fancy view, but you could glimpse the ocean in the distance. In the past, my husband and I have stayed here with a gorgeous view of the back bay.

We spent much of our time at the Pure Blu Spa, which was an amazing quiet salt water pool that we had to ourselves for much of the day. You can order food and drinks out here via room service, though be prepared for pricey service fees and included tips. The spa itself is very nice and tranquil, indeed with blue lighting throughout. We made use of the Sauna, cool foot bath, and hot tub as well. There is also a steam room and full shower facility. The spa is also open to the public, with a variety of beauty and massage treatments available. Lockers are provided. It would be a great place for bridal pampering or just relaxation time, and it’s a plus it’s included in the Resort Fee.

Across the street, I have to give a shout out to Cafe Beau Soleil, which has an amazing brunch. It made us dream of France, enjoying Salmon Eggs Benedict, a delicious omelette, fresh coffee, and mimosas. The chocolate croissants are amazing as well!

Omelette + Mimosa = Yes please!
This is a great area of Newport that’s friendly to couples and families alike, and is also close to John Wayne Airport and UC Irvine, my alma mater. We would definitely return and celebrate again! 🙂
