Homewood Suites Anaheim Resort Convention – Great place for Disney Vacay or a Staycation

We had a great weekend celebrating my inlaws’ 40th Wedding Anniversary at the Napa Rose Chef’s Counter (more on that soon!)  as well as my son’s 7th birthday at the Disneyland Resort this weekend. With a lot going on, we decided it was worth staying by the parks, but an onsite hotel stay wasn’t in the budget this time.  Based on our previous great experiences with Homewood Suites in Napa, San Diego, and for my in-laws Upstate New York, we decided to give the new Anaheim Convention Center location by the Toy Story Parking Lot a try, and it worked out really well!

First – the location – you can literally hop a wall and be in the Toy Story Parking Lot for Disneyland. While you can’t actually do this, it’s an easy walk next door to catch one of their regular shuttles from the parking lot into the Resort.  It’s also an easy 15 minute walk or so if you’re in the mood, or the shuttles and parking situation are crazy (as they were this morning due to the Halloween crowds flooding in).   Any hotel with less walking and convenience after a busy day at the parks is great, and this one won’t disappoint there even though it’s not as close as those across the street on Harbor.

The next perk is the modern design and large rooms – we had a one bedroom suite, with a full kitchen and living area, plus a large separate bedroom with 2 Queens.  It’s awesome for families with kids!  We had plenty of room! My Inlaws had a Deluxe Studio, also with a sofa bed (just no separate bedroom) and full kitchen as well.  We had plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 kids, and could have done more.  The kitchen is so nice to have for snacks, quick meals, coffee, wine, etc, especially for longer stays.  These hotels are all nice that way, but this particular location is newer with lots of space.  It was very comfortable, clean, and had everything we needed.   On top of that, we even had a clear view of the fireworks from our room!

Finally, the amenities are nicer than average – there’s a pool, a baby pool, and a spa. There’s also a mini golf putting green, and a half basketball court. All of these are great for kids seeking downtime from the parks during the midday craziness, and are a lot more than many of the local hotels have to offer. Our kids would have been plenty happy to hang out there much of the day!  There is also a full hot buffet breakfast, much better than the continental that is common at the hotels that offer it.  You can’t beat a good protein fix and fresh coffee before Disney days!  On Monday-Thursday nights, they feature a happy hour with light fare and drinks, which would certainly be welcome to the average parent!

We absolutely love staying on property at Disney, but there’s no question if you want more space, breakfast, convenience and a good location, Homewood has to be on your list.  Other favorites in the area include Marriott Residence Inn by the Convention Center, Fairfield Inn on Harbor (closest), Courtyard by Marriott (also closest), and a little farther away – Embassy Suites South! 🙂   However there are many Good Neighbor Suite properties we’ve still yet to try and hope to explore!  Happy Halloweentime at Disney everyone!
